Ten Years Ago, Ten Years Later

The 8th book and 7th poetry collection by Justin Eggen.
As the Taliban consume Afghanistan, G.W.O.T. veterans look on in disgust.
"I’ve been haunted and tormented each day since leaving, but there is something particular about the summertime. From the months of April-October in 2011, I was deployed to the frontlines of the Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in search of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to effectively remove and dispose of as part of a route clearance team. Ten years later, my trauma from those months still haunts me as a casual reminder of the collective loss we share. A loss of friends, a loss of youth, a loss of pride, and a seemingly literal loss as the taliban swarms the country upon our exit. This book of poetry is a reflection and deep introspection of the 20 years’ war called Operation Enduring Freedom and enduring it was." - Excerpt from Authors Note
This is a 20 poem collection that is my personal answer to the question we all received.
"How do you feel about what's going in Afghanistan right now?"
